“Every particular in nature, a leaf, a drop, a crystal, a moment of time is related to the whole, and partakes of the perfection of the whole."
~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
From where I sat under a sea grape tree where the sand meets the sea on Hawksnest Beach, I saw above me in the twisting branches a particular one that had somehow worked its way over, under, over and under other branches. Then I realized that the whole cluster had cooperated in that growth and that the tree itself and the winds and everything in nature had played a part.
That unusual
woven pattern in the limbs of that one tree seemed to mimic an interlacing we were discovering with several other guests.
It happens to all of us at times. We meet another person or a couple and feel an immediate kinship. We learn of shared backgrounds, birthplaces, histories, and life experiences. We have similar outlooks. We may have faced similar issues or challenges. Somehow, without having been
aware of it, we were growing along similar sprigs and vines. We still are. The meeting, the synchronicity, the exchanging of stories - it feels like a gift. It delights us. It often comforts, strengthens, and encourages us too.
"It's a small world," we often say. Indeed it is.
It's a small yet miraculous world in a large mysterious universe in which we are all connected like branches in the sea grape
tree.
May we become more aware that we are partaking of the perfection of the whole.
With wonder and joy,
Charlene
