"We need the possibility of escape just as surely as we need hope."
~ Edward Abbey
Whenever I actually escape into nature as I did last week, I find that it is not a
running away at all. It turns out to be a home coming, a re-entry into my true Self, a return into communion with a vital part of me.
When we want to escape, maybe what we want to escape from is the spinning wheel aspects of our lives on which we run like the little rodents we see at pet stores. Seemingly they are
enjoying the activity of running, yet they are getting nowhere.
Maybe, even if we are getting
somewhere on the goal line of our lives, we need to progress on what may be called "the soul line."
Maybe, we need to escape - or even have the possibility of escape- because we are meant for more.
We are meant to see the world with wonder.
We are meant to feel a part
of it all, not apart from it all.
We are meant to be present and to feel the full range of human emotions without fear.
We are meant to use our talents for personal satisfaction and to help make the world a better place.
We are meant to thrive and to be kind.
We are meant for love and compassion and more.
Let's escape from the weightiness of worries and the sense of stuckness today.
For healing and hope, let's enter into the natural world either in our imaginations, our memories, or in real life.
What place in
nature refreshes and renews you?
Go there somehow by way of a walk, a run, a song, a fragrance, a photograph, a prayer, the sharing of a story, the holding of a stone, the planning of a trip, a drive, a swim...somehow.
Let your inner wisdom guide you to a place of beauty, peace, and joy.
And may hope be strengthened for
each of us.
Faith too,
Charlene
