"I couldn't help but imagine what my world might be like if I looked at the human beings I was closest to as holy..."
~ Joan
Anderson
In one of my favorite books, A Year by the Sea, Joan Anderson writes about her year of living
alone, close to nature, as she seeks to re-establish an authentic relationship with herself and her family.
At one point she wonders about seeing others the way a monk respects the chalice, and she tries to look behind roles to the genuine spirit of others.
What would we experience if we looked at those closest to us as holy?
What might our loved ones experience
if we looked at them this way?
Imagine if we were able to see everyone this way.
If only we could. Might we someday? Can we act "as if" today?
Let's experiment. Without revealing what we're attempting, let's choose someone to be the recipient of our high regard and deep reverence
today. It might help to "see" that person as the vulnerable newborn he or she once was, as the toddler trying to stand and walk, as the completely trusting, loving, and innocent child.
Imagine looking into the eyes of that child, seeing soul to soul.
With
love,
Charlene
