"Our doors are open. Our clothes come in every size. There's hot food on the stove, and our cabinets are well-stocked. We promise to always share what we have...for as long as you need, we're here to
help...
Your courage and care continues to inspire our whole city. We couldn't be more proud to call you our neighbors, our friends, and our family."
~ The above is part a letter from the people of New Orleans to the people of Houston. It was published as an ad in
The Houston Chronicle on September 10.
If you would like to have your faith in humanity strengthened, read the whole letter. You can find it on my website, right on the home page. It's my most recent blog.
In the aftermath of Katrina, Houston took in hundreds of thousands of people from New Orleans. They shared their homes, clothes, and food. They helped people find
temporary jobs. And much more.
We're all capable of extraordinarily beautiful deeds and transformational acts of kindness. We're capable of so much more than we yet realize. We are the ones to make a brighter day.
Let's look for ways to brighten this day.
With love,
Charlene
