"We're taught to be ashamed of confusion, anger, fear and sadness, and to me they're of equal value to happiness, excitement and inspiration."
~ Alanis Morissette
Isn't it time for us to become accepting of all our
emotions? No one is joyful all the time. Sadness may not be as pleasant to experience, but without it, would we know joy? Appreciate it?
Without down, up has no meaning. The full range of human emotions is rich and natural. It's like the full spectrum of colors in a rainbow.
Of course we don't want to get stuck in sadness or feed anger, but all our emotions serve
us, guide us. All have value.
I'm reminded now of a song I used to sing to our grandchildren when they were about three years old. Wow. In a few days they'll be seven. I think I'll sing it to them again when I see them later today. It goes like this:
I love you when you're
happy.
I love you when you're sad.
I love you when you're funny.
I love you when you're mad.
(add as many emotions and moods you can think of, and end with...)
I love you all the time.
Try it. The tune is
whatever you make of it. Also the words. I made it up and you can too. Sing it to an adult too. And you!
I love you when you're silly.
I love you all the time!
Joyfully,
Charlene
PS - The gifts of compassion and wisdom are very much a part of today's message too. There is a serious and deep side to this embracing of all our emotions. And there's this light side too.
