TODAY'S TOUCHSTONE

"In difficult times you should always carry something beautiful in your mind."

                 ~ Blaise Pascal

Whether we are presently experiencing the best of times or the worst of times, let's carry something beautiful in our minds today.

What might that be for you? A place in nature? A memory of a beautiful experience?

For me it may be the memory of snorkeling over a giant sea turtle and watching her eat. Or the time that seven dolphins frolicked for nearly an hour alongside a boat I was on.

I have often held an Etty Hillesum quote in my mind.

"I know what may lie in wait for us," she said while at Auschwitz. "And yet I find life beautiful and meaningful."

In the midst of hate and horror, Etty choose to carry beauty in her mind.

Surely, regardless of whatever worries and heartaches we may be carrying, we can also carry something beautiful in our minds to help balance us and bring us through.

Toward peace and healing,
Charlene
