"Do human beings ever realize life while they live it ?-every, every minute?”
~ Thornton Wilder
Sadly, I think we don't. I know that I don't. Not every minute. Some I do. Some minutes I realize: I AM!
I used this quote from "Our Town" with appreciation for my brother. Today is his birthday and I'm grateful that he was born.
Eleven
years ago, he had an epiphany after realizing how the years had passed so quickly and so many moments were taken for granted and forgotten.
Wanting to be more awake and aware in the moments, he started a "photo of the day" practice. His intention was to pause often throughout each day and savor the seemingly ordinary things.
Now and then he sends me his photo of the day. Sometimes it's a spectacular
sunrise or a close-up of a just-opened flower in his garden.
But most days his photos are of more mundane things, like an egg frying, water pouring from a shower head, a just-poured beer, his well-worn slippers as he's about to put his feet into them - all precious moments when appreciated.
Wishing you a day filled with precious
moments.
In joy,
Charlene
