Dear Touchstone Friends,
I'm writing to share a personal experience.
Something unusual happened to me yesterday. I think it was a miracle. My husband and I are on a beach vacation on Sanibel Island. It was very windy yesterday, so windy that in
the morning I expressed concern to my husband that an umbrella could be picked up out of the sand, tumble down the beach, and impale a person.
That afternoon, I was the someone who was struck with a windswept umbrella! Fortunately, miraculously, the point of the wooden pole coming at my
side slipped under my tight swimsuit strap, slid across the top of my shoulder, and stopped at my neck! I am so thankful! Especially because last night I read a news report about two women impaled by beach umbrellas. I think both those accidents happened yesterday too. One happened in Maryland. The other was on a New Jersey beach. The Maryland woman was impaled in her chest, under her collarbone. She is expected to survive. The NJ woman was hit above her
ankle.
"Thank you, God, for blessing us and protecting our comings and goings."
I am praying this for all of you and yours as well as for me and mine.
I came across this prayer of protection in Pocketful of Miracles by Joan Borysenko, PhD in 1996. One morning in 1997, I said it especially mindfully, with heartfelt care. I didn't know why.
It just felt important. Later that morning, when I was driving on I-10 in Phoenix in the middle lane, I heard inside me, "Move over to the far right lane, NOW!" I did. A few minutes later I got a flat tire, a blow-out, and my car wobbled. I was able to pull off the highway onto the shoulder just before several large trucks sped by. My car shook in the wake. I shook too! Had I still been in the center lane, a very serious, multi-vehicle accident might have
happened.
Yesterday morning, I also said that prayer of protection, mindfully, more so than usual. You may wish to use it too.
Thank you for following Today's Touchstone and for exploring life's gifts with me.
Love and light to all,
Charlene
