This touchstone reflection is not about paying income tax. Consider another meaning of the word "tax." Are we exacting about how things must be done? Do we often demand more? Might we be "over-taxing" ourselves and others with regard to accomplishments, affection, attention, anything?

If we recognize ways we are extremely tough, let's refrain from harsh judging about it. Avoid taxing yourself further with guilty thoughts and feelings and negative energy to carry.

Instead, let's embrace the first part of the quote and choose to care more. Show more kindness. Forgive. Smile inwardly to yourself and out to the world. Make this a day to lighten up and release taxing expectations.
