"You cannot do a kindness too soon, for you never know how soon it will be too late."
~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
What first comes to mind for me is my dad's sudden death in 1999. One day he was here on Earth. The next day he was gone. There was no warning.
Because my mom was in treatment for leukemia, for three years every moment
spent with her was a precious opportunity to be mindfully loving and kind, right up to her last breath in 1996.
When I was diagnosed with advance Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma in 2000, I realized that my own days are numbered, and I again shifted into a deeper appreciation of...well...everything.
I was fortunate, blessed, with a cure. But it remains true
that my days are numbered. Yours are too. His. Hers. Their's. All numbered. Hopefully we have many days. But passing on from this life is certain.
This focus on death is not meant to scare anyone or to be morbid. It's meant to inspire us to live more mindfully, with kindness shown to ourselves and others day-by-day.
Let's be especially loving and kind this
day.
So be it,
Charlene
