"Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the
potential to turn a life around."
~ Leo Buscalia
When I sat to write today's touchstone, before I even selected a quote, I wondered what happened on this day in history. I wanted to learn of a significant discovery or some sort of breakthrough for humanity that happened on the second day of April.
Most of
the events cited were stories of dangers and disasters. One of those danger stories resulted in an outcome that some would call a miracle. In 2011 a Southwest plane was forced to make an emergency landing when a hole opened on the roof of that plane during flight. Amazingly, all the passengers and crew survived and there was only one minor injury.
However, on that day in 2011, and on every day that year, and on every day in every year, many things happen that can be called amazing, even miraculous.
"A hundred million miracles are happening every day" according to the song.
They may not be recorded in history, they may not make the evening news, they may not even be known by us. But every act of kindness has the potential to turn a life around, to heal, and to lead to miracles.
Today, with no expectations, let's be kind, just for the joy of it, just because kindness is built into our hearts.
Alongside love, reverence and hope,
Charlene
