Standing up in general - for truth, for ideals, for change - it takes courage.
And courage is strengthened when many find common ground and stand together for high principles, especially when it is done with love.
Standing for a cause
for the greater good, there is beauty in that too.
I saw that beauty yesterday in the dignity, eloquence, articulateness, passion, purity, commitment, and love demonstrated by the hundreds of thousands - more than a million, perhaps millions - of young people standing for healing our culture of violence. And, young people in 800 cities in countries throughout the world stood in
solidarity with our sons and daughters and grandchildren.
Watching, I felt so proud of them. I felt hope. I felt joy. I'm still feeling it.
Wherever we each stand on the issue of gun laws, on all issues, may we listen with respect and not belittle or dismiss this generation.
May we listen with respect to all.
