"The influence of a beautiful, helpful, hopeful character is contagious, and may revolutionize a whole town…. "
~ Eleanor H. Porter
The above is from Pollyanna, that famous book about being positive no matter what.
It seems to me that the Pollyanna character and the book's message have been misunderstood. Have you ever heard anyone
encouraging others to be like Pollyanna? I haven't. But I have heard:
"What? Are you a Pollyanna?"
and
"Don't be such a Pollyanna."
Pollyanna did not bury her
head in the sand nor did she look through rose-colored glasses. She accepted what was real and then she looked for the good in that or the opportunity in that or the lesson offered.
Pollyanna had a great deal of gratitude, joy, hope and imagination.
We have those gifts too. And when we
use them, we too can revolutionize a whole town, maybe a whole country. Let's look for the opportunities for greater good and act upon them.
With courage,
Charlene
