"True navigation begins in the human heart. It's the most important map of all."
~ Elizabeth Kapu'uwailani Lindsey
When a fellow breast cancer
patient told me about Sue the Cancer Navigator, I felt intrigued with the job title as well as the work of helping people find their way through the complexities of cancer and onward to healing.
After meeting with Sue, I got to thinking about navigation in broader terms.
Over the course of a lifetime, changes and challenges force* each
of us to explore many new territories. How do we find our own best way?
People like Sue can help us map our way through particular territories. In her case, the territory is cancer. For other phases, stages, and aspects of life, there are guidance & career counselors, marriage counselors, financial advisers, coaches, mentors who offer map-making and map-reading services.
As we
make our way through any territory, let's also and always remember to attune first to the navigation offered by our own hearts.
Just as the sun and the stars have guided explorers on outer world journeys for eons, the heart continues to be the most important tool for finding our way through all our personal trails and all of humanity's trials.
May our hearts keep us on course today, via love,
courage, compassion, and wisdom.
With strength and beauty too,
Charlene
PS - *Please consider this too: Instead of thinking in terms of our being "forced" into new territories, we can think of ourselves as courageous explorers. Each change and challenge gives us valuable opportunities to explore, learn and grow. What do you
think?
PPS - For those who do not know and may be wondering, I successfully faced breast cancer in 2016.
