"I have found as a Dementia Care Giver that I have to be careful not to look at
either my Beloved Spouse or my Mother as broken because their cognitive skills are different than what they once were. For that matter, it is not fair of me to look at anyone on this planet as being broken. There is nothing to fix. Each one of us has come here with a purpose, whether we know it or not. Each person that has come into my life has made some kind of difference; has been my teacher. We are each Your creation, and each of us have our own journey."
~ Rev. Sandra Hopper, R.N.
In yesterday's touchstone, I compared us with broken soil, broken clouds, and broken grain following a quote about God using these broken things to grow grain, give rain and make bread.
We do all feel broken at times. A marriage ends. We fail
at something. A loved one dies. Our sense of self crumbles.
Rev. Sandy's quote reminds us that the essence of us is never broken. At our core, there is always strength, beauty, and dignity.
I know Rev. Sandra. She reminds me of water, which is soft but can wear away
rock. In her I see strength and vulnerability.
For all the times we see ourselves or someone else as broken, let's remember that in our vulnerability there is great potential for growth and transformation.
Today, with every reach for strength, let's draw up reverence and compassion
for all.
Love too,
Charlene
