"I believe in traditions; I believe in the idea of things being passed between generations and the slow transmission of cultural values through tradition."
~ Graham Moore
As I prepare our family's traditional Christmas Eve mushroom soup, I feel connected to all our family members who have passed, to relatives who preceded them and to all the earlier versions of me. This leads me to feel more grounded and at peace. It stirs reverence,
too, and some sensation I can't name because no word exists for it.
What about you? How important are traditions and rituals in your circles? If you feel like sharing something, please do!
Consider what Thich Nhat Hanh says, "When you learn about the teaching and the practice of another tradition, you always have a chance to understand
your own teaching and practice."
As Deborah Norville says, "There is a comfort in rituals, and rituals provide a framework for stability."
I would love to do what Mallory Jensen
dreams of doing."I would like to spend Christmas in different countries all over the world," she says. "I love seeing how different cultures celebrate the holidays in their own unique ways."
Our traditions and rituals: Let's keep them alive, cherish them, and share them.
With joy,
Charlene
