"Think big thoughts but relish small pleasures."
~ H. Jackson Brown, Jr.
I love big thoughts and large, sweeping dreams for the world, such as a global switch to sustainable energy, having food and water available for all people, establishing peace among all countries and achieving nuclear disarmament. I like big imaginings for myself too, such as having The Thirteenth Gift becoming a movie. So I'm going to keep holding the big thoughts while I savor the small stuff, such as floating in our
community's heated pool.
Like yesterday's message about playfulness, today's advisement to savor small pleasures is wise in many ways.
The play Our Town comes to mind.
Speaking from the grave, the character Emily says: "clocks ticking....and Mama's sunflowers. And food and coffee. And new ironed
dresses and hot baths....and sleeping and waking up. Oh, earth, you are too wonderful for anybody to realize you. Do any human beings ever realize life while they live it--every, every minute?"
Life on earth is wonder-full. Let's relish it!
With love, gratitude and joy,
