"The losses of the natural world are our loss, their silence silences something within the human mind."
~ Jay Griffiths
If we could measure the collective grief that we are experiencing, I wonder how it would read.
The first thing I noticed when Frank and I arrived at Sanibel Moorings last week
was a loss of some trees. Although most of the trees on and around the grounds still stand - and I felt grateful for that - I also experienced grief for all that had been lost.
Even if we live far from the places hard hit by Irma and Harvey and the fires in California, we are all
affected. The grief may be subtle for some and intense for others, but since we are all connected to one another and to the natural world, every one of us is touched by these events.
For the widespread grief in our country and culture now, for grief everywhere in the world, let's call upon the compassion within us and apply it wherever we can.
Let's start with ourselves. Let's call upon hope too. And faith. Love, of course. Mostly, may we be kind.
Amen,
Charlene
