"...the reason why people go to a mountaintop or go to the edge of the ocean is to look at something larger than themselves. That feeling of awe, of going to a cathedral, it's all about feeling lost in something bigger than oneself." ~ Diane Paulus
Lost in something. A part of. One with.
Whatever words we use, there's an experience of awe and wonder we sometimes have that is beyond words.
It can happen in a cathedral, especially if the cathedral was built long ago, is massive, and has enormous height as well as stained-glass windows that transform sunlight into rainbow rays. At such places we are likely to feel comforted, guided, strengthened, and not alone.
The experience of awesome sacredness is even greater when we are somewhere in nature's cathedral, which may be at the edge of the ocean or in
its depths. It may be on a mountaintop or in a grand canyon. Nature's cathedral is living, breathing, and profoundly more powerful than the most magnificent structures we humans can build.
Let's aim to experience this today. If you can't be actually present in such a powerful place, consider some alternatives. Perhaps revisit a memory of being in one of nature's cathedral places. Or, appreciate something natural and small in a close-up, intimate way.
Whatever you do: Be alive. Be awake. Be aware. Be in awe.
With reverence and zest for life,
Charlene
