"When in doubt, choose to include." ~ Tim Shriver
I am presently reading Tim's book, Fully Alive. I'm very moved by his reflections on what it means to be human and on spirituality.
Tim is the CEO of the Special Olympics, which, as you very well may know, was started by his mother, Eunice Kennedy Shriver.
Eunice had a sister with intellectual disabilities. Her name was Rosemary. Rosemary's sufferings and Eunice's love for her sister led to the Special Olympics.
When we stop and think about it, Rosemary is largely responsible for millions of what used to be called "mentally retarded" children being trained, encouraged, included, and celebrated in the world of sports.
Today's take-aways are:
When in doubt, let's choose to include, everyone.
In all things, let's look for the gift, find the gift, or create the gift.
Let's not judge any life as inconsequential or tragic.
Opportunities for greatness are in every person and in every situation.
I believe,
Charlene
