"When we seek to discover the best in others, we somehow bring out the best in ourselves." ~ William Arthur Ward
I read an article yesterday about former U.S. President George H. W. Bush having a secret pen pal.
Bush's letter-writing friendship began in 2002, when the president wrote to a Filipino boy named Timothy: "I want to be your new pen pal. I am an old man, 77 years old, but I love kids; and though we have not met I love you already. I live in Texas - I will write to you from time to time - Good Luck, G. Walker."
Timothy did not learn the true identity of his Compassion International pen pal until 10 years later, after he graduated.
Just as Bush felt love for that child, I felt love for Bush when I read the article. I wanted to know more about the best in him. And I wanted to bring out the best in me. Have you noticed how this works in you?
Beginning today, let's look for the best in everyone and see The Twelve Gifts in action.
And whether or not we make New Year resolutions, let's try our best to use The Twelve Gifts for living wondrously well.
For well-being and peace,
