"Hope is the pillar that holds up the world." ~ Pliny
the Elder
It’s also been said that hope is a magic carpet, a thing with feathers, and it's like the sun. I like to describe hope in symbolic and picturesque ways too, but what I most want to say about hope today is: We need it.
Hope is a necessity for normal, healthy living during normal, healthy times. In contentious and fearful times, hope is a crucial need for us, individually and collectively.
We need hope to cope, think clearly, and face challenges with courage.
We need hope to solve problems with wisdom, to take action with compassion, and to live in peace.
Let's remember what Mr. Rogers did when he saw scary things happening. As his mother recommended, he looked to the helpers. He looked to the people making a difference. He noticed there were many of them. That gave him hope. It also inspired him to be a helper.
Let's be helpers and pillars of hope.
With love, kindness, and reverent
vision,
