"There is a sacredness in tears. They are not the mark of weakness, but of power." ~ Washington Irving
There's wisdom in this quote. Compassion and reverence too. However, many adults, especially men, do not yet share the perspective of Washington
Irving.
With wisdom, compassion, and reverence, let's let go of any negative judgments we may have about tears in the eyes of boys, girls, men, and women as well as judgments we may hold toward those who see tears as weak and shame children who cry.
Instead of saying more about judging and
shaming, I want to close this reflection on the word "sacredness." Let's look for it in ourselves and others.
With wonderment and joy,
Charlene
