“Since we cannot change reality, let us change the eyes which see
reality.”
– Nikos Kazantzakis
Of course it's not a literal change of eyes that
Nikos Kazantzakis is recommending. But
it is a kind of vision correction.
Imagine if there were special "enlighten" glasses that allowed us to see meaning, order, beauty, and love in situations. I suppose that would do it. But until such glasses are created, how do we see
differently?
As Melody Beattie wrote, "Sometimes a slight difference in where we stand can dramatically change how we see things." Last week we saw Sedona's Red Rock formations as an example of this.
One more quote:
"Scared and sacred are spelled with the same letters ... Every negative experience holds the seed of
transformation," says Alan Cohen.
Hmm. Can you recall a time when you experienced a transformation from scared to sacred? Or fear to faith? Or ugly to beautiful? I'm going to reflect on this, see what comes up, and offer an example tomorrow. I hope you'll do the same.
