"Let parents bequeath to their children not riches, but the spirit of reverence." ~ Plato
I don't have great financial wealth to bequeath to my children, and they came into this world with reverence already a part of their spirit, so I can't bequeath it.
Looking back, I can see that Frank and I encouraged and cultivated our daughters' natural reverence,
as our parents did for us. Our parents didn't do it perfectly; nor did we. I'm still learning. We all are.
Perhaps what we need to leave to the generations that come after us is our valuing of reverence. And we need to dole it out to them from the time they are born by treating them with reverence and modeling it by the way we treat all people and all life
forms.
Today, let's be aware that reverence was not modeled or encouraged for everyone. So let's treat everyone with it now.
Compassion too,
Charlene
