"Gratitude bestows reverence, allowing us to encounter everyday epiphanies, those transcendent moments of awe that change forever how we experience life and the world."
~ John Milton
Have you noticed how, when you appreciate something, anything at all, either a little bit or a lot, some measure of joy follows, always?
Today's quote gives us something new to consider. It's the notion of gratitude "bestowing" reverence. It sounds right and reasonable that gratitude would prepare the way and allow us to
meet "those transcendent moments of awe that change forever how we experience life and the world." But does it happen that way? And how often? When was the last time you had one of those moments? I believe we had them often, once upon a time, when we were young children. We are still capable.
Today, let's make room for reverence. Let's first relax. Next, let's allow ourselves
to release worries, tensions, and planning for the future. Let authentic gratitude for something bubble up. Then, let's invite and welcome reverence. I believe it will come. It may be within minutes. It may be much longer. But let's be ready. While we wait, let's stir up some more gratitude. It can't hurt.
Ready or not, here it comes: Reverence.
Hoping. Trusting. With
faith,
Charlene
