“It is not so much for its beauty that the forest makes a claim upon men's hearts, as for that subtle something, that quality of air that emanates from old trees, that so wonderfully changes and renews a weary spirit." ~ Robert Louis Stevenson
That subtle something. Have you noticed it?
Perhaps the subtle something that emanates from trees includes the oxygenated air they give us in exchange for our co2 exhales. That is certainly something wonderful.
But there's more, because I've felt that subtle something in gardens, at ocean's edge, in the desert, and in canyons as well as from trees.
Where have you noticed it?
I'm wondering if that subtle something is nature's inner beauty. And our spirits are renewed by it because the beauty within us resonates with the deep beauty within nature, not just its outer beauty.
Hmm. That subtle something. There's more to wonder about it though, such as the wisdom exuded from old trees, canyons, deserts, the seas, and gardens,
But right now, let's be mindful of beauty - the beauty we see on the surface of things and the beauty that's within us and all creation.
Consider this from The Twelve Gifts of Birth:
The second gift is beauty. May your deeds reflect its depth.
Let's draw beauty from its depths today and bring it into the world.
With love and joy,
Charlene
"I perceive something in these three flowers (Brunfelsia pauciflora - commonly called Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow) that is deeper than their outer beauty. And...I see ways we are like them and they are like us..." - from The Twelve Gifts from the Garden
