"Be who you are, who you really are. Don't judge. Don't compete. Just be." ~ from The Twelve Gifts from the Garden
Before signing a book for a neighbor, I fanned the pages of The Twelve Gifts from the Garden while I thought about what to write in the copy she was giving to a friend.
I fanned them again yesterday for a touchstone message for us today. I was asking "what Life Lesson for Peace and Well-Being" should we consider now?
The turning sheets paused on page 105, where the reflection on "Joewood" begins. I scanned the story and came to this:
"Although it is quite hardy, Joewood is an endangered species...to help protect this plant by giving it more respect and attention, the city named Joewood the official plant of Sanibel."
Reading on, I came to today's quote about being who you are and a new lesson presented itself in an ah-ha way.
Joewood's lesson is already about being ourselves. The plant can also leasd us to the richer realization that each of us is like an endangered species.
We can be ho-hum about being one-of-a-kind, or we can embrace this truth with awe and act upon it.
Like the City of Sanibel with regard to the Joewood plant, we can decide to give ourselves greater respect and caring attention. We can shift our perspective and elevate how we treat every human being. Every one of us is a precious, one-of-a-kind creation!
Increasing gratitude for ourselves and others can lead to greater joy, peace and well-being for all.
Love and reverence too,
Charlene
