"Life isn't some kind of race. We all cross the finish line, sooner or later. You'd hate to get the end in sight and suddenly wish you'd walked rather than run, wouldn't you?" ~ Mary Alice Monroe
A vivid memory suddenly comes to mind. Have you ever wished time would pass? An hour, a day, or longer? Maybe something was painful, boring, or challenging. Or something ahead was calling.
In this memory, I'm a teenager walking with my friend, Anna, along Broad Street in Elizabeth, NJ. We're wishing for time to speed up and carry us though something. We stop to look at a display in Goerke's department store window. Suddenly, Anna says, "Why would we wish this day away?"
I don't remember the issue. I remember how her words stopped us from bemoaning. I'm appreciating that age in my life, that stage in the life of cities, that valuable friendship, that precious moment.
Every moment we live is precious. Let's not race or wish time away.
Soon enough, this too shall pass, and we'll be experiencing things differently.
Everyday let's look for beauty, listen for wisdom, and choose to love.
With faith, hope, and joy,
Charlene
