"When despair for the world grows in me...I rest in the grace of the world, and I am free." ~ Wendell Berry
Poet Wendell Berry wrote beautifully about the power that nature holds for him, going to "where the wood drake rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds" as a way to be freed of despair.
I feel soothed and strengthened as I picture that wood drake and great heron scene.
Host of the award-winning children's television show, Fred Rogers said when he felt fear about things in the world, he looked for the helpers, as his mother had advised. I imagine that played a part in Mr. Rogers becoming a helper in the world as an adult.
Seeing the beauty in nature and in human nature can move us from despair to peace and hope.
In times of stress, in all times, let's keep the beauty in our nature nurtured.
With faith, hope, and love,
Charlene
