What J.K. Rowling says here is something to consider when we are feeling low, broken, or as if we have no future.
Rock bottom is among the strongest of foundations. It can be if we make it so.
Another way to use this quote comes to mind. We can remember it whenever we see a person who appears to be nearing or at rock bottom. Someone sleeping in a car or a cardboard box. Someone pushing a shopping cart filled with meager possessions. Someone needing a shower and asking for money. Who are we to judge? Maybe reaching such a place is a part of their journey. Maybe it took a great deal of courage to undertake such a curriculum. We don't know.
We do know that we have a choice. We can choose to see the human dignity that is within them despite their outer appearances. We can wish them well, sincerely. We can make eye contact. We can offer food or money.
Choosing to act in a compassionate, reverent, and loving way may not be the most common response but it is the response that will uplift our hearts and make a difference in our lives as well as in the lives of others and in the world. Choosing this way can send healing ripples over all humanity. What do you think?
