"While still seated on my bed, here's what I pray:
'Loving God, stretch me beyond myself
to the place where you wait for me in silence.' "
~ Sister Carolyn Gorny-Kopkowski
I'd like to pass on to you the morning mantra that my friend
Sister Carolyn shared with me as part of an Advent talk she gave to her community.
Deeply moved, I am adopting her mantra. Like Sister Carolyn, I will begin each day saying:
"Loving God, stretch me beyond myself
to the place where you wait for me in silence."
For me, this
simple-yet-powerful, one-sentence prayer opens a door. Several, actually.
That first gift I sense and feel - rather than see - beyond the door is beauty.
The beauty of Sister Carolyn's mantra lifts and carries me to Rumi's field:
"Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing there is a field. I'll meet you there.
When the soul lies down in that grass the world is too full to talk about."
I am at peace. I feel hope. I trust in what is unfolding. I can almost smell the grass. I am strengthened. Faith-filled.
What gift, if any, does Sister Carolyn's mantra open for you?
What does this reflection stir in you? How will you carry this touchstone today?
Namaste,
Charlene
