“Everybody needs beauty as well as bread, places to play in and pray in, where nature may heal and give strength to body and soul.”
~ John Muir
When this quote caught my attention yesterday, I
realized that my soul, my mind, my emotions, my body...all of me needs a respite.
Perhaps you too are needing something more than bread and business as usual.
Ahh. I just realized that, while I am getting my daily bread, I'm not getting the safety and security of "business as usual" right now. Are you?
In the aftermath of the contentious election season, in the midst of a discomforting government transition, and with the holiday season upon us, perhaps,
like me, you are feeling a need both for something more and something less.
The more for me is to be soothed, supported, and nurtured by the beauty of nature.
The less is to be away from commercialism, consumerism, and cynicism. Away from all the concrete too. And asphalt, stop lights, power lines, billboards, strip malls, social media, and television. Away from noise.
Since we are all unique, this may or may not resonate in you.
So what does
give strength to your body and soul? Take some time for that today.
Try a little spell of sitting or moving in silence too. Consider what Mother Teresa said in the quote below and remember that we are a part of Mother Nature not apart from it.
"See how nature - trees, flowers, grass- grows in silence; see the stars, the moon and the sun, how they move in silence... We need silence to be able to touch souls.” (Mother Teresa)
With love for the
beauty in you,
Charlene
