“A great vision is needed, and the man who has it must follow it as the eagle seeks the deepest blue of the sky."
~ Crazy Horse
When I came upon this quote, I felt drawn to it but wondered: What does it mean? What might I say about
it? And, how did Crazy Horse get his name?
I read that his name meant "the man with the spirited horse" and that he was part of the Oglala Lakota tribe, a spiritual division of the Sioux.
What does any of this have to to with The Twelve Gifts and how we might live them?
Bear with me.
With reverence, the spiritual man Crazy
Horse perceived the "real" world behind the ordinary world we see. He saw into the essence of things, where the trees, the grass, all of creation - even the stones - are very much alive. He felt the Oneness among us all.
He also demonstrated hope. The hope in me is stirred when I read more of his words, especially this quote:
"Upon suffering beyond suffering: the Red Nation shall
rise again and it shall be a blessing for a sick world. A world filled with broken promises, selfishness and separations. A world longing for light again. I see a time of Seven Generations when all the colors of mankind will gather under the Sacred Tree of Life and the whole Earth will become one circle again."
We are nearing the seven generations out from the time of Crazy Horse.
But let's not wait for that
date, or rely on fate, or depend on the work of others to heal our planet.
Our world is longing for light and love now.
Instead of dwelling on any of the darkness we see, let's hold a great bright vision of humankind living in peace.
I can see a time when the Red Nation rises - when
red, black, yellow, brown, and white lives all rise and matter. When all people are respected and encouraged to be their best. When all children are taught that they are neither greater nor lesser than anyone else. When the green earth and the blue sea matter.
Can you imagine growing numbers of people from all nations, cultures, colors, and creeds holding - and following -
such a vision?
I pray that your hope is stirred too.
With hope and reverence, we can rise like eagles above fear, hate, and despair to the heights of this vision.
Let's begin by aiming to see and bring forth the best in ourselves and others.
Let's commit to bringing blessings to the world.
How might we do that today?
With love,
Charlene
