"Your fellow man is your mirror. If your own face is clean, the image you perceive will also be flawless. But should you look upon your fellow man and see a blemish, it is your own
imperfection that you are encountering - you are being shown what it is that you must correct within yourself."
~ Baal Shem Tov
In my younger years, for many years, I resisted this notion. " I am nothing like so-and-so who
is always negative," I would exclaim. (Or...fill in the blank with whatever quality or behavior many of us judge in others.)
Finally, I came to see the truth of projections.
But there is another side to this valuable learning coin.
When we admire someone, the truth is that we have those positive qualities in us too. One of life lessons is to recognize,
embrace, and cultivate the greatness we see in someone and not yet ourselves.
Without dismissing opportunities to see how we might clear our blemishes, let's focus on the beauty and goodness that we see mirrored in others.
Think of someone your greatly admire. Yes, go for
greatness. And now, look within and see how this beauty, this courage, this talent, this compassion, this strength.... is also in you.
It's true!
Whatever we see in others is a reflection of us.
May we polish our mirrors and see what life shows us today.
With readiness to learn and to love,
Charlene
