"Toleration is the greatest gift of the mind; it requires the same effort of the brain that it takes to balance oneself on a bicycle."
~ Helen Keller
I wish it were as easy to practice tolerance as it is to ride a bike, once we learn how to balance on two wheels, once we "get it" in our bodies.
Maybe it is like that. But many of us still have training wheels on our learning of tolerance. Maybe we all need to practice more. Practice. Practice. Practice. And
then progress from tolerance to respectful acceptance, to reverence of one another.
Is tolerance a gift in the mind? Or heart? Or Soul? Maybe we need to have it balanced in all three.
To tell you the truth...I don't quite understand what Helen Keller is saying here. I welcome your insights. As I welcome the grace for us all to be become more tolerant, more accepting, and more respectful. May we make it
so today, one by one.
Toward reverence,
Charlene
