TODAY'S TOUCHSTONE

"The Tibetan Buddhists say that if the Universe were as big as the ocean, and if there were a single wooden ring floating on the surface of that ocean, the chance of getting a human birth would be the same as the turtle surfacing with his head in the wooden ring."

                 ~ Joan Borysenko

When I read this 20 years ago in Joan's beautiful little book of daily reflections, Pocketful of Miracles, it immediately became a touchstone for remembering to value my life, my children, all human life, all life.

Of course, we don't know for sure how factual this is. And sometimes, with all the billions of people on the planet and how the population of humans is rapidly growing, it may seem that human life coming into being is not that difficult. Although, for couples who cannot conceive or carry a baby to full term, for all who have lost a child, for all who recently lost a loved one of any age, it may seem very true indeed that each human life is precious and rare.

The point for us all is this: May we value life. May we appreciate being here. Instead of taking life for granted today, may we live it mindfully.

With reverence and gratitude,

Charlene

REVERENCE. May you appreciate the wonder that you are and the miracle of all creation.
