"If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his language, that goes to his heart."
~ Nelson Mandela
The subject of language came up with our five-year-old grandchildren yesterday. They are proud to be learning to read English.
They are also proud to be learning how to read music, speak a little Spanish, and use sign language. Alexis delighted us when she said,
"Japanese is a language too but I don't know that one."
When I came upon this Nelson Mandela quote, I thought of how I want to get better at using the language of the heart with our grandchildren, with all my loved ones and friends, with all people.
Doesn't it feel wonderful when we are heard from the heart?
With compassionate understanding
that we can't control how others communicate with us, may we wisely and lovingly use heart language as best we can.
Namaste,
Charlene
