"One of the most sincere forms of respect is actually listening to what another has to say."
~ Bryant H. McGill
Almost everyone listens not to hear and understand but to react to what has been said.
I heard that comment yesterday in a conversation with a school friend of mine who has become a
very wise, heart-centered counselor.
"To change the way we listen and begin to truly hear takes practice, practice, practice," he added.
Starting today, it is my intention to:
Listen to hear and understand;
Listen with respect and compassion;
And to practice, practice, practice this..
Imagine how much richer, healthier, and happier all our relationships will be, how much more peaceful the world will be, when we listen to one
another with respect that deepens into reverence.
May we be guided by the Rule of Saint Benedict who said, "Listen with the ear of your heart."
With loving regard,
Charlene
