"The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others."
~ Mahatma Gandhi
In the past, whenever I heard messages like this one, I thought in terms of big commitments to volunteer service. When I came across this quote yesterday, it
occurred to me that we can also lose ourselves "in the service of others" in little episodes everyday.
For example, when driving our cars, instead of staying focused on our own wants and needs to get to our destination, we can watch for opportunities to let others merge in front of us. Even if we have the right of way, we can, at least one time, slow down and allow someone to (seemingly) get ahead of us, and do this in the spirit of service to a fellow man or
woman.
Such caring actions can help us to get ahead on the life journey of finding ourselves, I believe.
Let's watch for little ways to be of service today. From the thousands of possibilities, may we chose at least one.
With caring,
Charlene
