"Don't let the light go out!
It's lasted so many years!
Don't let the light go out!
Let it shine through our love and our tears...
Light one candle for the strength that we need
To never become our own foe...
Light one candle for all we believe in
That anger not tear us apart
And light one candle to find us together
With peace as the song in our hearts."
Peter, Paul, and Mary, Light One Candle
We may be tempted to hate those who foster and feed hate, but let's not add any of our energy to hate. Instead, let's be extra loving, kind, and courteous. Let's smile more and foster joy, too.
To counter balance the negative and painful feelings I was having last night about the increase of hate and the rise in racism, I played the Peter, Paul, and Mary song, Light One Candle. As I listened, I got the idea to keep a battery lit candle on a table on my front porch. It's there to recognize the light, love, dignity, and beauty - all the gifts and talents, the worth - in every human being. Perhaps you'll be inspired to do that, or take another action inspired from
your heart, to foster respect among us all.
With love and hope,
Charlene
