Like the wistful wishing we did as children, most often we do yearn for things to turn out in the way we most desire. Of course we do. We are human, and the child we once were still lives in us, as does hope - hope at all
levels.
Wishing is hope on its surface level. At its depths, hope is how Vaclav Havel describes it.
My life experiences have shown me the truth of this - even if what unfolds resembles this late season sunflower that was standing tall in my garden one night a few years ago.
One side, lit by the moon, was bright and promising. The other was in shadow. And like this messy rendition of that sunflower,
how things turn out can be far from perfect but have meaning, even beauty.
For me, this sunflower is a symbol of hope at its depths, and the beauty of life. I see wonder in it too. It sprung up, not from seeds I had deliberately planted, but
naturally from seeds scattered by birds feasting at our feeders. Encouraged by the sun and nurtured by the rains, a crop of sunflowers grew with grace.
Today, let's hold hope and trust in what is unfolding in our lives. While holding hope,
let's wisely do what we can - all we can - toward having things turn out well, for ourselves and for all.
May we be encouraged and nurtured with all that we need to grow and to make a difference.
With love,
Charlene
