"Our world seems to have lost
all sense of reverence.
We seldom even use the word anymore.
The notion of reverence
is full of
riches
that we now need desperately."
~ John O'Donohue
“The world needs something more
from us now, and we need something more noble from ourselves as well.” said Stephen Dinan.
I think one of the most noble things we need is reverence, which is more than the bowed heads, bent knees, and hushed voices we associate with deep respect and deference. There’s wonder, awe, and dignity in reverence. Gratitude, joy, beauty, and more.
Albert Schweitzer said just as white light consists of colored rays, so reverence for life contains all the components of ethics: love, kindliness, sympathy, empathy, peacefulness and power to forgive.
I love the fullness and richness of his perspective. And I appreciate John O'Donohue call for reverence and Stephen Dinan's appeal for something noble.
We are all capable of
reaching into our hearts and bringing the riches of reverence into every part of our lives and into the world.
Perhaps what we most need right now is comfort, kindness, hope, encouragement, and of course, love.
Let's do our best to be our best now, aiming for reverence, dignity, and a spirit of nobility, with faith, hope, and love.
Truly,
Charlene
