"Let others see their own greatness
when looking in your
eyes."
- Molli Marti
Yesterday I recalled reading The Twelve Gifts of Birth to seven third-grade classes at a school near my
home. It got a little crazy with 140 children involved, but it was also enlightening and rewarding with many of the children giving their thoughts about one of the gifts.
What I most want to share is about the last boy to raise his hand. His
thought was about reverence. "I think it comes from love," he said. "When you really truly love someone, you have reverence for them."
It wasn't the first time I was awed by the wisdom and understanding of young children.
Fairly often I witnessed them demonstrate the gifts in ways that are beyond our expectations of them.
Today, let's practice reverence by raising our expectations of ourselves and others - not in a demanding or judgmental way - but in a way that looks for the beauty and wisdom in everyone.
Let's look for reverence with reverence so that others can see their greatness when they look in our eyes.
With love,
Charlene
