"Happiness is like a butterfly;
the more you chase it, the more it will elude you,
but if you turn your
attention to other things,
it will come and sit softly on your shoulder."
- Henry David Thoreau
How beautifully said. And how wonderful it is when a butterfly - or other animal - approaches and rests near.
My cats are often drawn to me when I'm relaxed, content, and in the moment. But they have also
come near when I've been worried, hurt, or stressed. They seem to know and care when I need comfort.
They run from me, however, whenever I pursue them to cuddle, clip nails...for any reason.
Might this be true for joy, happiness, and other worthy and noble things we desire?
Many sources say Yes, including inner wisdom.
So, instead of chasing after happiness, success, a loving relationship, or a dream we desire - instead of struggling in a grasping way toward any of life's praiseworthy accomplishments, let's appreciate the blessings we have and welcome the
new ones that are coming.
With grace, faith, hope, love, and joy,
