“Shared joy is a double joy;
shared sorrow is half a sorrow."
- Swedish Proverb
Some think that holding in hurt and putting on a happy face is a mark of strength and grace. "Don't bother others with our problems," they may say.
Or, "Sharing a vulnerability can weaken our image," some fear.
On the other hand, some think that sharing joys can seem like bragging.
But, this Swedish proverb is wise advice.
When we share our experiences and feelings sincerely - both the uplifts and upsets - both the teller and the listener can grow in wisdom and
compassion.
And it's true that when positive news is shared in happy, humble, and graceful ways, the joy
multiplies.
And sorrows, along with the fears that may accompany them, are usually softened and eased when
shared.
Let's be real, honest, caring, and kind with each other.
Always,
Charlene
