Today, as we recognize the sacrifice made by all who served and perished, along with honoring their courage, may our hearts open with compassion for all who grieve the loss of their loved ones. 

And may their sacrifice be not in vain. May we protect our democracy and all the high ideals we stand for and strive for.

Among those ideals, may we strive for peace.

I pray for the day when going to war is unthinkable because, worldwide, we have awakened to the preciousness of all humanity and all of God's creation.
