“A child's
world is fresh and new and beautiful, full of wonder and excitement..."
- Rachel Carson
Sadly, the wondrous way we perceive the world as children is dimmed before most of us reach adulthood.
Rachel Carson urges us to help children keep their sense of wonder by renewing ours and sharing
wonderous experiences with children.
My husband and I found experiencing wonder delightful and easy when our grandchildren were toddlers, preschoolers, and elementary students. Every experience was rich and powerful because the children were so open and receptive to seeing beauty, learning, and loving life.
As they enter the teen years and we hear the deeper questions they ask as they mature and face the
challenges of human life in the world today, we notice the beginnings of dimming.
Yet, thankfully, we see that there are still opportunities to be in awe with them, such as when we explored giant rocks in a ancient forest with them.
Today, let's appreciate
the growth and the changes that happen for all of us as we age and grow through all the stages of life. But let's also aim to renew and keep alive our inborn sense of wonder.
With love and reverence,
Charlene

May you appreciate the wonder that you are
and the goodness of all creation.
