“"When you look back over your life and see how much you've had to face... it's interesting
to try and pinpoint the first time... you had to reach inside yourself and pull out strength
you didn't know you had."
- Loretta Lynn
Think back over your life. Recall a time when you discovered you had strength beyond what you had
previously experienced.
For me, one of those times was when I was caring for my mother near the end of her life. Another was when I was diagnosed with advanced lymphoma and told,
“There is no cure.”
A quote from Howard Thurman reminds us that, "There is a strength beyond our strength, giving strength to our strength."
I sometimes use the image of a water well as a symbol for that. In my mind’s eye, we all have such a well. Each of our individual wells is fed by one fresh, clear spring. Deep and limitless, it is the source of all strength.
This image may or may not be useful for you. The important thing is trusting that there is indeed strength beyond your strength, giving strength to your strength.
Let’s draw up what we need.
Today and every day,
Charlene
