“The greatest gift that you were ever given
was the gift of your imagination."
- Wayne Dyer
A strong case can be made for each of the twelve gifts being the greatest. The one we need at the
time is often the one that seems the most valuable. But today, let’s consider Wayne Dyer’s perspective.
Have you ever heard how he used the image of a trolley strap as a touchstone in his daily life? You
may wish to try this for yourself someday. Perhaps today.
He first got the idea when he was a child traveling with his mother on a street car. Young Wayne imagined being able to defy gravity, lift himself
up, grasp the strap, and be carried along in a safe, delightful, and free-floating way.
Years later, as an adult, Wayne began to visualize doing that as a way to lift himself above
his worry, stress, and whatever circumstances were weighing him down, including physical discomfort. When he visualized floating up and grasping the trolley strap, he
saw and felt himself to be in the flow, connected with Spirit, carried with grace and ease to wherever he needed or wanted to go.
Whether or not you agree that imagination is the greatest gift, you probably agree that it is
a powerful one.
Be sure to use it "not to scare yourself to death, but to inspire yourself to life," as psychotherapist Adele Brookman wisely
advises.
How might you use imagination today to advance toward one of your dreams?
One way is to picture your desired outcome. Form it in your mind as clearly as you can. Include details that are important to you. Notice when your visualization starts to feel real. Savor that sense of reaching your destination and give thanks.
With joy,
